Homemade Vapor Rub



  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup grated bees wax
  • 20 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • Glass jar with lid


  1. Pour the olive oil, coconut oil and beeswax into a jar.
  2. Place a saucepan with 2 inches of water over medium/low heat.
  3. Carefully place jar in saucepan and allow oils to melt. Stir to combine.
  4. Once combined, allow to cool slightly and add in essential oils. Mix well.
  5. Pour mixture into metal tins or storage containers and allow to set.
  6. Enjoy! Makes a great gift!



Famous Sweet Potato Casserole

Fall is amazing. The leaves are changing, it’s starting to cool down, the holiday spirit is in the air, and everyone just seems to be a little bit happier. Not to mention, all the wonderful food that is in store for us! After receiving some requests, I am going to share my famous sweet potato casserole dish with you. Every year, when we go to Thanksgiving dinner, this dish is always requested! I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy and delicious this is. I’m sure that it will become part of your family tradition as well. You might want to double the recipe, just in case.
I hope you enjoy it!

  • 3 cups (About 3 or 4 large) sweet potatoes
  • ⅔ cup dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • Just a pinch of salt to bring out the flavors
     For the Topping:
  • ⅓ cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecan pieces

    1.) Peel, then cut the sweet potatoes into 1″ cubes, rinse well, then gently boil in lightly salted water until fork tender. Don’t over boil or they will turn to mush. Check them after 20 minutes then every few minutes after that.
    2.) While the potatoes boil, make the topping. Combine topping ingredients together in a small bowl. Stir to combine. Set aside. **If you do not like this topping, or have a nut allergy, feel free to use mini marshmallows. Most years, I make one with the nut topping and one with marshmallows. 🙂 Heck, you can even do both if you want! Add the marshmallows to the casserole the last 5 – 7 minutes of baking. You can even put it under the broiler for a few minutes to get them nice and golden!
    3.) Mash the sweet potatoes about halfway by hand, with a hand mixer or (my favorite) a Kitchen-aid Stand Mixer.
    4.) Beat in the salt, sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and milk until smooth and creamy. By the time you have incorporated all of the ingredients, they should be smooth. If you like them a little chunky, skip the third step. Don’t forget to taste it! Since the sweet potatoes vary in size, you can always add more/less butter or brown sugar to your taste.
    5.) Smooth out in 9 x 13 buttered pan.
    6.) Crumble topping over sweet potatoes. Admire your work!
    7.) Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
    **Pro Tip – if you are taking these to a friend or relatives house, I would recommend covering them and waiting to bake them until you get there. Make sure they have room in the oven first. 🙂

How to Banish the Mommy Tummy

I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be a woman. The responsibility of taking care of a family, cooking, cleaning, working, having babies…. All of that takes a toll on our bodies! The stress alone can make you pack on the pounds, so why not make a change? I have devised an easy-to-follow plan to get rid of the mommy tummy once and for all! If you’re serious about a flat, smooth tummy – this is for you! These small lifestyle changes will lead to BIG results.

Eating habits that will vanquish the mommy tummy:
Eat a low-carb diet (60 – 100 per day)
No processed foods (Stick to the 80/20- rule. 80% whole natural foods, 20% “other”)
Don’t drink your calories. Did you know one bottle of Ruby Red Squirt has 78 carbs?! Instead, drink lots of water. Add lemon, cucumbers, or another fruit if you like. If you don’t like water… I’m not sure what to tell you but once you start drinking more of it – your body WILL start to crave it! If I don’t drink about 1 gallon of water per day, my body feels like a dry sponge.
Eat smaller portions, and count calories using an app like My Fitness Pal to see what you need to modify.
Don’t be too hard on yourself, if you mess up one day – don’t quit! That’s like saying if you had one flat tire you would pop the other 3! I promise you, that if you tell yourself “I don’t want that” rather than “I can’t have that” it will make this so much easier. ❤
Weight loss is a journey – stick with it. Don’t restrict yourself too much. Eat the foods you want, but eat less of them and stick within your calorie range.
Calorie King is a great tool to see what you should be eating daily to reach your goals. Remember, food is fuel.

Easy Exercise Regimen:
Lift weights for 30 minutes per day; 5x per week. Weight lifting burns more calories than cardio and helps to tone your body without bulking up. This leads to a slim and feminine physique. Click here for an easy to follow weight-lifting regimen for beginners.
If weight lifting simply isn’t your thing, go for a brisk 30-minute walk each night before dinner.
You can also plank for 10 – 60 seconds one time per day.
Once you start to get in the habit of these things, exercise will become addicting. It makes you feel great, raises your serotonin levels, combats fatigue and depression and turns you into a stone cold fox!

Slow Cooker Apple Butter Recipe: Homemade Gift Ideas


There is nothing better than homemade gifts! Every year I make a whole mess of Apple Butter for our friends, family and Dan’s co-workers and they love it! It costs me about $30 to make this gift for 30+ people. Can’t beat that! I use small mason jars for them and decorate them too. Apples (Enough to fill a medium/large size crock pot
1 1/2 TBSP Pure Vanilla Extract
1 1/2 Cups White Sugar (Can also use un-bleached sugar)
2 TSP Cinnamon

2 TSP Apple Pie Spice (optional, but highly recommended)
1 TBSP Unsalted Butter
1 TBSP Local Honey
2/3 Cup Dark Brown Sugar (can add more to taste)

Core, peel and slice apples using this handy gadget

Lightly butter the inside of the crock pot with unsalted butter
Add apples and vanilla extract to crock pot
Cook on low for 8 hours (Can leave overnight or start in the morning. Better to leave overnight because you have to cook it a while longer)
Add in the remainder of the ingredients and let cook for another 6 hours on low
Blend apple butter in a food processor for an extra smooth result!
* For a chunky texture, pulse in the food processor

Keeps in the fridge for about 3 weeks in a tightly sealed container.

1. For dull, oily and combination skin
Massage the skin with iced yoghurt and sprinkle some sugar along with it. Now take orange halves and scrub gently until the granules melt. Wash the face with iced water and see the difference.
2. For dull, tired and dry skin
Massage the skin with papaya. Then make a scrub by mixing oats and honey along with a little cold milk and scrub the skin. Wash off with ice cold milk and water and pat dry.
3. Suffering from frizzy hair?
Try this simple, quick and easy-to-make spray. Take slices of two lemon and simmer in two cups of water until it reduces to half the amount. Pour the liquid into a spritz bottle and spray on your hair. Not only will there be a wonderful natural sheen but static and fly away hair will be gone!
4. For natural hair color
If you have a brownish tinge in your hair and don’t have the time to henna or color it, then take a few sprigs of rosemary from the kitchen shelf and simmer them in 2 cups of water along with 2 tsp black tea until it reduces to half the quantity. Mix with 1/4 cup of shampoo and every time you shampoo, use this mixture. Leave the shampoo in your hair for about 15 minutes and see the difference it makes.
5. For a smooth back
Planning to wear a low back blouse, backless dress or choli, but have no time to go in for a body scrub to show off a smooth back? Here’s a quick home remedy. Take 1 cup of sea salt and mix it with half a cup of olive oil. Add 5 drops of sandalwood oil and mix well. Store in a jar and scrub the areas of your body you want to flaunt. Wipe off with a wet towel.
6. Dealing with under eye bags and dark circles
Take used chamomile tea bags and store them in the freezer. Grate half a cucumber and massage around eye area and then lie down with the tea bags on your eyes for 10 minutes.You will find an instant difference in the way your eyes look and feel.
7. Instant face lift
Wash your face with ice water or simply rub and ice cube with a tsp of honey on the face. Beat an egg white until it peaks and brush onto your skin and let dry. You will feel the stretch in the skin. wash face with icy cold water.
8. Tired eyes?
Long hours at work, then shopping and getting things organized for the festive season can be tiring. I would suggest you make this wonderful eye wash which will make you feel refreshed instantly. Take iced spring water in a bowl and add a few drops of rose water, 2-3 drops of honey and immerse one eye into it. You can also open your eye a little and then close it. Throw away the liquid and make the same water for the other eye and repeat the process. After this, splash the eyes with cold mineral water. There maybe slight redness for some time but it will go away soon and your eyes will feel refreshed in minutes.
9. Quick Hair Care
Don’t have the time to shampoo and blow dry your hair even though it is oily? Well, sweat not. Sprinkle talcum and amla powder onto your hair brush and overturn the hair over your head and brush from the nape of the neck to the tips .Now throw your hair back and voila you have bouncy oil free hair in minutes!
